What is it like to train with Simple Manners Dog Training?

Session structure.

The amount and frequency of training sessions is in your control, but I will make recommendations based on what I think is needed for you and your dog. Usually once a week, or at least once a fortnight, are optimal. The sessions are 40 minutes long as this is the perfect time for a meaningful session, before your dog begins to lose interest in the learning.

The first session is always an introductory one, where I can interact with your dog and talk to you about the dog's past, any training issues, and your goals. From there, I work based on priority. For example, if lead walking is the main challenge, I will build some lessons around that, before working on other areas.

Before working on a goal, I need to see what things currently look like between you and your dog in the environment or sitation where you are finding challenges. This may be following behind as you walk your dog, or seeing what happens when you initially leave the house without the dog (for separation anxiety). Once I establish the level things are at, I can then introduce methods to help.

Training should be fun! I always say to people to leave any sense of grace and decorum out of it - we need to enthuse your dog, and often that involves being silly! High pitched noises, excitable movements and over the top praise are all tools I utilise to really lock in your dog's focus - we are aiming for you to be the most interesting thing in your dog's world.

I check in via text or WhatsApp before each session to check on progress - this saves time within the session meaning we can maximise progress. I also provide the weekly 'homework' by text, email or WhatsApp, so that you have an easy reference guide every week. Everyone learns differently, and I am very happy to work however is best for you.
